Who we are
About Us
TarifaFreelance started with a frustration a lot of freelancers know well: not knowing what to charge.
Why this site exists
A few years ago, someone on our team started freelancing as a designer. The skill was there, but every time a client asked "how much do you charge?", she froze. She'd throw out a number, almost always too low, afraid of losing the job. By the end of the month, the math never worked out — she was working constantly and still barely getting by.
When she finally sat down and ran the numbers, she found what happens to most freelancers: she wasn't billing the hours she actually worked, wasn't accounting for her expenses, and had no real idea how much was going to taxes. Without realizing it, she was subsidizing her clients out of her own pocket.
What we do
We're a small team of freelancers who've been through the same thing. We built the tools we wish we'd had when we started: clear calculators, with real self-employment tax and federal tax already built in, that tell you plainly what you need to charge to actually make a living from your work.
Our idea is simple: no freelancer should charge less than they should just because they never did the math. That's why the tool is free, doesn't require signup, and works in seconds.
How this site is funded
To keep the site running and keep building new tools, we show ads. That's what lets everything stay free for you. We don't sell your data or ask for personal information to use the calculators.
An honest note
Our calculators are a guide to help you make better decisions — not a substitute for a CPA. We do our best to keep the information accurate and current, but your specific situation may have details a general tool can't account for. When in doubt about taxes, talk to a professional.
If this tool helped you charge what you're actually worth, it did its job. And if you have ideas to make it better, reach out on our contact page.
